The Popular and Solidarity Economy as an economic restructuring strategy for intercultural children and adolescents from the Central Market

The Popular and Solidarity Economy (PSE) is an economic model aimed at promoting socioeconomic inclusion and the development of priority groups through the principles of solidarity, cooperation, and community participation. This study aimed to analyze the Popular and Solidarity Economy as an economic reconversion strategy for intercultural children and adolescents from families of small entrepreneurs at the Central Market of Pasaje Canton. A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The study population consisted of 59 intercultural children and adolescents from families of small entrepreneurs at the Central Market of Pasaje Canton. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire organized into six dimensions: entrepreneurial interest, knowledge of the Popular and Solidarity Economy, financial education, entrepreneurial skills, perception of the Popular and Solidarity Economy, and training needs for economic reconversion. The findings revealed that the greatest needs were related to entrepreneurial skills and training for economic reconversion, as well as limited knowledge of the Popular and Solidarity Economy and financial education. In addition, participants showed a favorable perception of this economic model as an alternative for strengthening entrepreneurship and promoting socioeconomic inclusion. It was concluded that the Popular and Solidarity Economy represents an appropriate strategy for fostering economic reconversion through the strengthening of entrepreneurial capacities and the development of competencies that support inclusion and sustainable economic development among this priority population.
