Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a digital terrestrial television link by simulating a Rayleigh fading channel in MATLAB Simulink, considering various signal-to-noise ratio conditions, Doppler frequencies, and digital modulation schemes. A quantitative, applied, and experimental simulation-based methodology was employed, implementing a communication model that incorporated binary data generation, modulation, a Rayleigh fading channel, additive white Gaussian noise, demodulation, and bit error rate calculation. QPSK, 16-QAM, and 64-QAM modulation schemes were analyzed at Doppler frequencies of 1, 10, 50, and 100 Hz, evaluating their performance across different signal-to-noise ratio levels. The results showed that, generally, increasing the signal-to-noise ratio led to a decrease in the bit error rate, although performance varied depending on the Doppler frequency and modulation scheme. In the comparison at 50 Hz, QPSK achieved an error rate below 10⁻³ at 16 dB and 16-QAM at 22 dB, whereas 64-QAM remained above that threshold up to 24 dB. The results demonstrated that the modulation order and the channel's temporal dynamics jointly influenced the link's performance.
